Certificate Program Overview
New Jersey’s Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules (N.J.A.C. 7:13), which were adopted in 2007 and amended most recently in July 2017 to improve riparian zone protections, improve consistency between the FHACA rules and the uniform construction code and the national flood insurance program and to facilitate environmentally beneficial activities. These rules continue to represent the most stringent statewide flood mitigation and stream corridor protection rules in the country.
This interactive certificate program is intended to cover all aspects of New Jersey’s flood hazard area program, from basic concepts, such as what is a flood hazard area and riparian zone, to complex engineering and environmental issues. NJDEP instructors, including Vince Mazzei, PE, will discuss the flood hazard area program in detail and answer questions regarding technical issues and regulatory requirements involved in obtaining NJDEP flood hazard area permits and approvals. Details of the 2017 adoption will also be discussed.
