Environmental
This program consists of three (3) courses and covers all aspects of New Jersey’s flood hazard area program, from basic concepts, such as what is a flood hazard area and riparian zone, to complex engineering and environmental issues.

With a relevant 4-year degree and completion of two courses (Air Quality Permitting Seminar, plus the Auditor’s Workshop OR Complying with the NJ Pollution Prevention Act), you can become listed as an NJDEP Qualified Environmental Air Compliance Auditor. Earning a spot on this list will let potential customers know that you have completed NJDEP-approved training that has prepared you to perform audits efficiently, effectively, and in keeping with all NJDEP rules and guidelines.

The NJDEP Subsurface Evaluation certification enables an individual to conduct remediation activities for unregulated heating oil tanks. The exam to earn this certification is administered online by Rutgers OCPE.

Food Safety
The Rutgers University Better Process Control School is approved by the FDA and follows the prescribed course of instruction for certification. Participants who complete the course requirements become BPCS certified and receive a certificate of training from Rutgers University.

Project Management

Public Health
Environment Public Health (EPH) is an 8-week course followed by a 200-hour unpaid health department internship. This program provides the expertise and hands-on experience you need to start your public health career, and qualifies you to apply to take the NJ Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) Licensing Exam. In New Jersey, an REHS acts as the front-line investigator for many of the state’s public health and environmental regulations.

Designed by the Rutgers Center for Vector Biology (CVB) and coordinated by the NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education (OCPE), this new certificate in mosquito management includes three courses designed to meet the needs of government or private industry personnel involved in mosquito research, surveillance, and abatement.

.Radon
This entry level course prepares students for the NJDEP or National Radon Safety Board (NRSB) radon measurement certification exam. It covers the selection, placement, and set up/operation of radon measurement devices.

This entry level course prepares students for a national (NRPP or NRSB) or NJDEP radon mitigation certification exam. Students learn how to design and set up a working radon mitigation system.

Recycling, Compost, and Clean Communities
Complete ten required classes and all course proficiency assignments to become a NJ Certified Recycling Professional (CRP). Students learn how to develop, implement, maintain, promote, and track a fiscally sound and successful recycling program.

The Alternate Recycling Certification Series is a 4-day course and exam for individuals who wish to earn the NJ Certified Recycling Professional (CRP) credential and possess certain levels of prior experience, training, and/or professional certifications.

The NJ Clean Communities Council (NJCCC) partners with Rutgers OCPE to offer a certification course for Clean Communities program personnel. The three-day program presents information on programming, statistical reporting, budgeting/cost management, communications, volunteer management, and related topics. Students can become NJ Certified Clean Communities Coordinators after taking this course and completing additional requirements.

N.J.A.C. 7:26A – 1.4(a)(14)(xiv) states that all operators of composting facilities in New Jersey must “attend a composting course…..approved by the Department.” Rutgers OCPE, in conjunction with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection and in cooperation with the Association of New Jersey Recyclers, has developed this course which meets the requirements of the regulations and will help you to improve your compost facility’s operation.

Water and Wastewater Operations
Per NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations, those seeking a Level 1 “T” (drinking water treatment) or “W” (drinking water distribution system) license must successfully complete an approved “Introduction to Water” course, such as this one.
