A new teaching garden was designed, built and unveiled in 2026 in honor of former OCPE staff member, Fran Koppell. The garden will extend the classroom outdoors for future golf turf management program students.

On May 20, 2025, Rosemary Mahony, Department Administrator at Rutgers University’s Office of Continuing Professional Education (OCPE), received the Lisa Laitman Recovery Champion Award from the Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) at a ceremony in Douglass Student Center. The award honors individuals who significantly support those in recovery from addiction. Mahony was recognized for her exceptional efforts in coordinating space for support groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, at the Bioresource Engineering Laboratory. Her work, driven by personal loss and a commitment to service, has had a profound impact on students and families in recovery.

Liz Coogan’s journey in turfgrass management has come full circle as she takes on the role of program coordinator at Rutgers’ Professional Golf Turf Management Program. Inspired by her mentor, Dr. Bingru Huang, Coogan has blossomed from a dedicated student to a respected leader in her field. With a wealth of experience from prestigious internships and positions, she now embraces the opportunity to help shape the next generation of turf professionals.
