Technical Assistance
The Rutgers Noise Technical Assistance Center offers assistance via phone for governmental agencies, industry and private citizens. We assist in the interpretation and drafting of noise codes, the intricacies of their enforcement, compliance determination, equipment selection and use, and impacts to residential and commercial properties. The RNTAC has been offering this sort of help since the very beginning; it’s part of our name. To this day, the USEPA regularly refers calls to us.
If your needs are greater than can be resolved over the phone, or if you require on-site assistance including certified sound level measurements, we can provide you with a referral to a number of well qualified private consultants.
New Jersey Model Noise Ordinance
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, along with the New Jersey Noise Control Council and the Rutgers Noise Technical Assistance Center, have authored a Model Noise Ordinance that may be adopted by New Jersey municipalities. This Model Noise Ordinance is not meant to be a stand-alone code as it repeatedly refers back to the New Jersey State Noise Code at N.J.A.C. 7:29. A link is provided below for municipalities who are interested in reviewing this document. It is very important that the Procedures For Adoption are followed closely to insure that you have adopted the code in a legally valid form and manner. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
