The application fee is non-refundable.
The registration fee covers any required course materials and additional online resources. There are no required textbooks; however, a recommended reading list will be provided to registrants with a welcome packet sent out in the spring.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Registrants must withdraw in writing (via email to registration@njaes.rutgers.edu and eph@njaes.rutgers.edu).
- Before May 1: Registrants who withdraw in writing before May 1 will receive a full refund, less a $150 processing and administrative fee.
- On or after May 1: Registrants who withdraw in writing at least five (5) full weekdays before the EPH course begins will receive a refund, less a $550 processing and administrative fee.
- If the Office of Continuing Professional Education is not notified in writing at least five weekdays prior to the start of class, registrants will be responsible for the full fee.
English Language Proficiency
Students are expected to be able to read, write, speak, and understand spoken English at a fluent level in order to register for EPH. If English is not your first language and/or you are uncertain of your English proficiency, we highly recommend that you take an English Proficiency Test. Please refer to the Rutgers’ English Proficiency Requirements to check that your English skills will be strong enough to support you during EPH. If you have any questions about your English proficiency, please contact Olga Welsh at 848-932-7315 or eph@njaes.rutgers.edu.
Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities
If you require special assistance, please notify our office when you register or no less than one week before the course starts. If you have an IEP or 504 Plan, please submit that paperwork to eph@njaes.rutgers.edu before the course begins. Every effort will be made to accommodate reasonable requests. Students seeking accommodations are also encouraged to visit the Rutgers Office of Disability Services website in the months preceding EPH for more information about available resources.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is documented through morning and afternoon sign-in sheets each day. These attendance policies are enforced:
- Students must attend a minimum of 90% of days (i.e., no more than 3.8 days absent) for the duration of the 8-week classroom course. Students who attend fewer than 90% of class sessions (who miss more than 3.8 days) will FAIL the course.
- Attendance at quizzes and the final exam is REQUIRED. Make-ups will NOT be offered.
Quiz/Exam Policy
- Weekly quizzes are administered every Monday morning starting on the second week of the course.
- A Final Exam is administered on the morning of the LAST DAY of class. Participation is mandatory. No exceptions.
- Attendance at quizzes and the final exam is REQUIRED. Make-ups will NOT be offered.
Grading Policy
- A minimum grade of 70% is required to pass the course.
- Grades will be determined based on the weekly quizzes and final exam.
- Attendance at weekly quizzes and the final exam is REQUIRED. Make-ups will NOT be offered.
Academic Integrity Policy
All enrolled students are required to sign an academic integrity agreement, in which they show comprehension that plagiarism, cheating, or other forms of academic dishonesty are not acceptable. Instances of academic malpractice may result in failure and expulsion from the class.
Technology Requirements
Online Class Sessions
In order to have the best experience, we highly recommend having a high-speed internet connection and a reliable desktop or laptop computer with a working microphone and webcam (internal or external). While Zoom (the web conferencing tool we will use for live classes) and Canvas (the resource site for all presentations, handouts, and recorded lectures) are accessible on apps for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, we have found that students sometimes face difficulties if they are not using a computer. Chromebooks, like mobile devices, will suffice in most circumstances, but it is possible that these users may not have the same total capability as on a computer.
Students are expected to update and maintain the latest versions of certain applications on their computers or devices, including Zoom, in order to have access to all features.
In households where multiple users are on a network, we recommend testing out your normal daily usage prior to the start of class. You may find that if multiple people are on your network simultaneously, it may make it difficult to have a strong enough connection to allow you to log on to the live Zoom classes. If this looks like it may be a problem, we recommend troubleshooting the situation early on. You may find that connecting your computer with a wire directly into your modem may help, as opposed to relying on a wifi signal from a router.
In Person Class Sessions
It is highly recommended that students bring a laptop or Chromebook to the in-person classes with them, so that they will have access to their own copies of all the digital notes files and can take their quizzes in person using Canvas. Exceptions can be made for students who do not have a laptop or Chromebook, but do have a tablet with an attached keyboard that is capable of running the Canvas app. However, a laptop or Chromebook is still preferable to a tablet.
