Develop Your Team’s Problem Solving Skills to Make Them More Self-Sufficient
In this course preview video, instructor Cristina Heta discusses the number one skill managers wish to see developed in their teams – problem-solving skills so that they can resolve issues on their own without needing to ask for a supervisor’s assistance. This course is designed to directly address this need. Cristina defines problem solving as “what you do when you don’t know what to do,” and lays out four specific steps to follow in order to solve any problem:
- Understand the problem.
- Devise a plan.
- Carry out the plan.
- Evaluate the solution.
As Cristina explains, if you don’t have a good understanding of the problem, you don’t know whether you’re solving it. This video preview highlights Cristina’s interactive teaching style as she leads the class through the process of understanding a simple problem. Students observe how framing the problem in different ways will lead to different actions taken to solve it.
In the full course, participants will gain advanced skills that will help them to identify and solve complex workplace and organizational problems. Topics including different problem-solving styles, brainstorming, thinking outside of the box, how attitude affects problem solving, and other specific tools for each participant’s problem solving toolbox will be covered.
